How these conversions work
Celsius to Fahrenheit (and back)
To convert Celsius to Fahrenheit, multiply the temperature by 9/5 and add 32. To go the other way, subtract 32 first and multiply by 5/9. Kelvin uses the same scale as Celsius but starts at absolute zero (-273.15°C), which makes it useful in scientific calculations. See the dedicated Celsius to Fahrenheit converter with a full conversion table.
Miles to kilometers
One mile equals 1.609 kilometers. This is a fixed, internationally agreed ratio, so the conversion is always exact — unlike, say, currencies, where the rate keeps changing. See the dedicated Miles to KM converter with a full conversion table.
Pounds to kilograms
One pound (lb) weighs 0.4536 kilograms. This unit is mainly used in the United States and the United Kingdom, while most of the rest of the world works in kilograms — which is why this conversion gets searched so often. See the dedicated KG to LBS converter with a full conversion table.
Stone to kilograms
One stone equals 14 pounds, or 6.35 kilograms. It's still the everyday way body weight is reported in the UK and Ireland. See the dedicated Stone to KG converter with a full conversion table.
Centimeters to inches
One inch equals exactly 2.54 centimeters. This conversion is searched constantly for clothing sizes, screen dimensions, and international shipping. See the dedicated CM to Inches converter with a full conversion table.
Why crypto rates need to be live
Unlike length or weight units, the value of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum keeps changing, sometimes several times a minute. Our crypto tool fetches a current rate from an external data source each time, rather than relying on a fixed conversion factor.
Converting between time zones
Every time zone is defined as an offset from UTC, so converting a time means adjusting for the difference between two offsets — and accounting for daylight saving where it applies. Handy for remote meetings, international calls, and travel planning. See the dedicated Time Zone converter.
